Dr. med. Volk specialises in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, in particular the treatment of fractures, joint problems and tendon/ligament/meniscal injuries. Since 1999, I have been involved exclusively in shoulder and elbow joint surgery.

Inspired and guided by my practice partner Prof. Dr. med. P. Habermeyer, I have learned the entire spectrum of shoulder surgery from the ground up and deepened my understanding of it through practical experience.

The ability to perform many different arthroscopic procedures especially motivates me to work on improvements to the instruments and on new techniques. This led to the publication of the Shoulder Arthroscopy Atlas in 2008. However, surgical techniques have to withstand the critical review of their effectiveness and benefit to the patient, so scientific evaluation is also a major concern in my work. For me, the well-being of the patient is always at the centre of my actions, which means I only recommend surgery if there is a proper indication for it.

Together with Prof. Dr. med. Habermeyer, Dr. med. Andreas Klonz opened the emergency room at ATOS Clinic in 2005, which over the years has become one of the largest practices at ATOS Clinic:

SPORTS SURGERY HEIDELBERG. The department is now much more than just an emergency room.

Since 2000 Dr. Klonz has in particular carried out operations on the shoulder and elbow. In this area, his focus is on his own scientific work, as well as continuous training in and further development of specialised treatments.

Dr. Klonz specialises in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, particularly bone fractures, tendon tears and ligament injuries.

A special focus is the treatment of sports injuries – for example, cruciate ligament and meniscus tears. From 2008 to 2013 he was the team doctor of the Handball Bundesliga team of the Rhein-Neckar-Löwen. During this time, he also acted as a replacement physician for the Adler Mannheim ice hockey players.

Many national rugby players, Bundesliga players, as well as youth players and their parents have relied on Dr. Klonz.

Dr. Klonz is married and is the father of 2 boys. During his adolescence and studies, he played high-level handball, as well as football and tennis. Today he keeps fit with mountain biking, skiing and fitness training.

Dr. Klonz was awarded in 2017 and 2018 with the recommendation seal of Focus magazine as an ‘Orthopaedic Surgeon’.

Since 2017 he is chairman of the commission for quality assurance in arthroscopy at KVBW.

For Prof. Dr. med. Knut Beitzel, in addition to the precise application of advanced surgical procedures, shoulder surgery includes a profound understanding of the individual characteristics of the shoulder joint. That is because an operation is only necessary if there is structural damage in the shoulder area. Chief physician Dirk Tenner also takes care of the special requirements of athletes. His many years of experience as a competitive athlete in track and field and triathlons are of benefit to him here.

Like the entire philosophy of ATOS Orthopark Clinic, the principle of gentle, painless and quick recover applies. Dr. Erhan Basad focuses on joint-preserving and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and ankle. His other areas of focus include leg-axis corrections on the knee joint and endoprosthetics of the knee and hip joints. As a regionally exclusive provider, he relies on personalised knee joint implants – custom made for the patient. Dr. Basad personally carries out over 700 outpatient and inpatient operations per year. Joint preservation through biological-regenerative (cartilage surgery) and axis-correcting measures is at the forefront of his work. With fresh sports injuries, structure-preserving surgeries (e.g. meniscal suture, healing response, cartilage surgery) and ligament grafts (e.g. cruciate ligament surgery) are used. Since 2006, Dr. Basad has appeared in the FOCUS list of doctors “Top Doctors/ Orthopaedics” as a knee specialist. The research focus of his university habilitation was in the field of cartilage cell transplantation. He continues his university teaching as a lecturer at Goethe University Frankfurt and Justus Liebig University Giessen. Dr. Basad is the author of numerous scientific publications and an active member of national and international scientific societies and committees. As President of the German Society for Osteoarthritis Management (www.DGFAM.de) Dr. Basad keeps up to date on developments in osteoarthritis therapy. His practice at ATOS Clinic is part of the DGFAM-certified Arthrosis Centre Heidelberg. The ATOS Clinic includes the first certified regional interdisciplinary facility of this kind.
